Palms
View Our Full List of Palms
Palms are among the best known and extensively cultivated plant families. They have been important to humans throughout much of our history. Many common products and foods are derived from palms, and palms are also widely used in landscaping for their exotic appearance, making them one of the most economically important plants. In many historical cultures, palms were symbols for such ideas as victory, peace, and fertility.
The fan palms are distinguished from the date palms by the arrangement of the leaf blades. In fan palms the blade is nearly circular in outline, and the divisions extend only half or two thirds of the way to the base, being arranged palmately.
In date palms the blade is elongated and divided all the way to the midrib, with separate leaflets along the axis. Our most popular palms are the Mexican fan, California fan, and the Phoenix date palm. We also stock Pindo, Mediterranean, and Windmill palms. Sizes that we have available are #5, #15, #20, 24” box, and B and B. Due to the fact that we are in the northern Chihuahuan desert, these palms (which are not native to this region) are susceptible to hard winter freezes. If tempertures fall below 20 degrees, there is a possibility of losing your palm. Palm trees in any size are not guaranteed.
