The purpose of beekeeping is to secure commodities such as honey, beeswax, pollen, royal jelly, and pollinating fruits and vegetables.
Bees play an important role in pollinating flowering plants. It is estimated that one third of the human food supply depends on insect pollination.
At our farm in La Mesa, New Mexico we produce raw, unfiltered, local honey. We have introduced the Russian Cariolan honey bee, which originates from the Carnica Mountains in Yugoslavia. This very docile, excellent honey producing, gray-black bee has shown excellent resistance to Varroa and Tracheal mites. The reason for this is the bee’s self grooming habit, they actually remove the mites themselves. Since no insecticides need to be used to combat the mites, the honey remains natural and raw.
